An active sidelight allows homeowners to widen their door configuration from a single door to a sidelight that operates like a double door. If space is limited to a single door with one sidelight, the active sidelight will allow you to open and close it to function as another door allowing you to have a wider opening and to be able to move large items into the home. The hinges on the sidelight will allow the sidelight to be permanently fixed to open and close at will when the front door is open.
If you have a double door with two sidelights, you can also reconfigure your space to have one fixed sidelight and one active sidelight. The active sidelight provides about 15” of extra room and can be built into outswing or inswing pre-hung units.
The re-configuration to include an active sidelight will require a pre-hung unit (frame, threshold, door and all of the standard components) project. We offer Plastpro fiberglass doors, frames and components to help with this type of project.
